So sorry to be negative, but I feel the need to voice my opinion on a certain "Animal Rights Group." PETA will say, show you or mail you anything that says anything to get your "donations." The adds that were on the Superbowl with near-naked women (or they removed the adds at the last minute) left me speechless as to how this helps our homeless and mistreated animals. Also, the mailings I have received from them are horrendous. They talk of skinning animals alive (pets). I cannot read it withought getting sick, so it just goes in the recycle. Is this advertising NECESSARY to solicit our $'s? They will certainly not be receiving mine. I will give to ASPCA, HSUS and our local animal shelters. Thank you.

I wouldn't give to HSUS personally, since half of 1% (that's 1 of every $200) that's donated to them goes to actually helping local shelters. If you really want your money to count, give to your local humane society, which they are not affiliated with. HSUS and PETA are both animal RIGHTS organizations rather than animal WELFARE ones. The difference is that animal welfare organizations (your local shelter, for example) want your pets to be happy, healthy, and loved. Animal rights organizations want your pets to be running free without the "slavery" of ownership and do not believe that humans have the right to domesticate any creature, no matter how well they're treated.
That is really something to think about. I didn't know there was such a difference. Thank you for clarifying it for me!
The interesting thing is the HSUS changed their name to be "Humane Society" once local shelters started using that more in order to appear as an umbrella group even though they're not. PETA's sole job is to make them look reasonable. The director of HSUS has said (I can find direct quotes if I need to, but I'll paraphrase here) that he has no problem with the extinction of domestic animals because they're man-created and that there is no humane way to raise any animal for food because it's all abuse. They're very active vegans and the things the director of HSUS says reflect that.
